ARCOTEL Hotels Sustainability Measures
Travel with a Clear Conscience
Travel changes the way we see the world – and with it, the expectations of our guests. Today’s travellers want to know what happens behind the scenes: where their breakfast comes from, how much energy an overnight stay consumes, and what happens to a towel that does not need to be changed.
Resources and Energy
We regularly monitor our energy, water and waste consumption and consistently work to reduce it, while our annual CO2 footprint assessment helps us identify the next steps. All ARCOTEL Hotels have switched to LED lighting. Unoccupied rooms automatically go offline: without a room key card, lights and electrical devices remain switched off. Heating and air conditioning are only used where needed, and as part of hotel renovations, we are replacing minibars with energy-efficient alternatives such as self-service shops in the lobby.
Waste Separation and Reduction
Waste separation applies to both guests and employees. Instead of disposable materials, we use sustainable takeaway alternatives, while toiletries are provided in dispenser systems. We consistently work to reduce plastic by using environmentally friendly drinking straws, glass bottles, avoiding plastic wrapping, reducing individually packaged food items and using sustainable packaging for breakfast juices. To combat food waste, we work with partners such as Too Good To Go. Our textiles come from Fairtrade production, paper is used only in exceptional cases, and our kitchens focus on regional and seasonal products as well as vegetarian and vegan alternatives. We use eco-labelled cleaning products, while fragrances and disinfectants are used only when necessary.
Mobility and Digitalisation
We provide information about public transport, cycle routes and e-taxis, while EV charging stations are available in ARCOTEL Hotel garages. We reimburse our employees for their annual public transport passes. Internal processes and invoice delivery are digital, and newspapers and magazines are available online. Our book exchange libraries, where guests can borrow books, are particularly popular.
