The city on the Elbe is also known as Germany’s Christmas capital, where the famous Striezelmarkt will be held for the 588th time this year. Starting at the main station, visitors can make a pilgrimage from Christmas market to Christmas market via Prager Straße, Altmarkt, Neumarkt with Stallhof and castle, then on across Augustusbrücke to Neustadt and Hauptstraße. With a select choice of ARCOTEL destination tips, Dresden is sure to be a holiday delight this Christmas.
STRIEZELMARKT DRESDEN
For the people of Dresden and for visitors to the city, the Striezelmarkt with its famous Christstollen is a very special place. Germany’s oldest Christmas market offers wood carvings from the Ore Mountains, including angels, miners, incense smokers, figurines, pyramids and candle arches, as well as wooden toys from the traditional toy factory in Seiffen. Moravian stars are also very popular, as is the glassblowing art from the Lusatia region. Enjoy your stay with the many delicious fragrances and culinary treats.
CHRISTMAS MARKET AT STALLHOF
The medieval Christmas market at Stallhof takes place every year in the heart of the city directly in the castle and just a short distance from the Striezelmarkt. This market is your opportunity to experience the Middle Ages the way they were. Over 50 shopkeepers and craftsmen are at work here with the tools, materials and clothing of the late Middle Ages.
ROMANTISCHER WEIHNACHTSMARKT
The Romantic Christmas Market on the square at Taschenbergpalais evokes the flair of the 19th century with the entire market atmosphere designed according to historical motifs and models. Visitors to this enchanting market can purchase the sort of products here that were available at the Striezelmarkt in the 19th century, including original Dresden Christstollen®, of course, as well as Pulsnitz gingerbread and wooden toys from the Ore Mountains.
AUGUSTUS MARKET
Coming from the Old Town and crossing the Augustus Bridge, you will reach the Augustus Market, Dresden’s second largest Christmas market, at the foot of Golden Rider. The white and gold illuminated pagodas, reminiscent of Augustus the Strong’s leisure encampment from 1730, and the unique blue Christmas tree offer an unmistakable blend of Saxon tradition with modern trends. Vendors selling traditional local crafts offer their products here alongside merchants from all over the world. Discover this unique classic-modern Christmas market on Dresden’s most beautiful promenade.
CHRISTMAS MARKET AT FRAUENKIRCHE
In Münzgasse between Dresden’s Frauenkirche and Brühl’s Terrace, the market stalls offer mouth-blown glass and handmade candles alongside pottery, wooden toys and hand puppets. Kräppelchen, crêpes and Pulsnitz gingerbread, roasted almonds, cotton candy and baked apples exude their tempting sweet scents, with mulled wine and Feuerzangenbowle on hand to warm you from the inside. An incomparable Advent atmosphere awaits! Tip: To bridge the waiting time until Christmas for the little ones, Father Christmas makes his appearance here every day at 4 p.m. with a surprise for every little guest.
CHRISTMAS GARDEN
